68027 ‘Splendid’ stands at Liverpool Lime Street having just arrived on 1F48 05:55 from Manchester Victoria, the very first public run of the New TransPennine trains.
It was certainly a strain getting to Manchester to ride the first train, my planned 03:57 train was shown as cancelled, so I ended up going an hour earlier on the 02:52 train from York. It was an early start, but there’s only ever one inaugural run!
I next rode on the first of the new trains over the Pennines, and what a journey it was, the Class 68 certainly did a good job of flattening the northern hills.
The train is due to run in service until Thursday, being used as a ‘pass out’ working for drivers and guards. A more regular use in service I think comes in September. I gained a very favourable impression of the Nova 3 trains and would highly recommend a trip to enthusiast friends.
So, where’s the link with the song? Well, it most certainly has been a ‘Fantastic Day’ and that song was in the top 10 back in May 1982, the month that TransPennine trains first stared running to Scarborough!

68027 「Splendid」は1F48 05:55発のマンチェスター・ヴィクトリア行きに乗ってリバプール・ライム・ストリートに立っています。
始発列車に乗るためにマンチェスターまで行くのが大変で、予定していた03:57発の列車はキャンセルと表示されていたので、結局1時間前のヨーク発02:52発の列車に乗ることになりました。早いスタートでしたが、始発は一度しかありません。
次にペニン山脈を越える新しい列車の最初の列車に乗りましたが、なんという旅だったことでしょう。
この列車は木曜日まで運行される予定で、運転士や警備員のための「パスアウト」として使用されています。もっと定期的に使われるようになるのは9月になると思います。私はNova 3の列車について非常に好意的な印象を受けましたし、愛好家の友人にはぜひ旅をお勧めします。
